What travel taught me about workplace communication skills

Summer has come and gone—and I hope you had a great one!
I had a wonderful time, much of it travelling with my family in South-east Asia. It was fun, refreshing, and full of lessons I'll be sharing in the weeks ahead – both here and on LinkedIn.
What does travel have to do with communication at work? A lot more than you’d think.
Travel has a way of teaching you things you don’t expect. Between meeting new people, navigating unfamiliar places, and experiencing another way of life, I was reminded of just how universal communication really is.
Whether it’s sharing stories around a table, explaining something complex, or pitching an idea, the same skills come into play. Especially when you don’t speak the same language… and even when you do.
Along my travels, I saw beautiful displays of powerful communication, mastering skills like:
🔹 Mindset
🔹 Confidence
🔹 Clarity
🔹 Storytelling
🔹 Audience focus
🔹 Body language
🔹 Voice
🔹 Humour
🔹 Connection
All of these matter – and all of them can transform your impact.
As always, I’ll keep sharing more stories—some from client work, others from my own adventures—in hopes they spark ideas for how you communicate, what you bring into the room, and how you connect.
I encourage you to consider which of these aspects you will strengthen to elevate your workplace communication skills.
